Pakistan budget 2013-14 budget debate
The Pakistan fiscal budget 2013-14 invited a lot of criticism over increased taxation. Mass proportion of the opposition has been moaning that the PML (N) government should have increased the tax net rather than increasing the General Sales Tax.Clarifications on Increased taxation
Ishaq Dar elaborated the matter and explained that even after imposing GST, the tax revenue would result in an increase of 202 billion rupees. However, the target increment has been set at 475 billion, that is 273 billion more than what GST and other measures would provide. The difference of 273 billion rupees would be met by increasing the tax net. About 500,000 people who do not pay taxes would be forced to pay direct taxes which would result in increased tax revenue for the country. It would be the first time in the history of Pakistan that such radical measures would be taken to increase the direct collection of taxes.Is'haq Dar has asked for the opposition to stop misleading the nation.
