Introduction:

Vietnam war was the longest and most unpopular war in the American history. The war stretched over 19 years from 1954 to 1973. The primary American motive was to stop spread of communism in the world. 58000 Americans lost lives, 304k wounded and 75k were severely disabled. The total cost of Vietnam War that United States suffered in monetary terms was 200 billion dollars.

Causes of Vietnam War

1. Communism in North supported by USSR and China
2. French defeat in 1954 and Geneva Peace Accords. According to the agreement the country was divided into 2 halves at 17th parallel and an announcement of elections to be held 2 years later in 1956. US opposition of elections after it emerged that the communists would win the elections.
3. Southeast Asian Treaty Organization was set up with the help of U.S. Military  political and economic aid was provided by the U.S to South Vietnam and Republic of Vietnam was born on 1955. Ngo Dinh Diem became the 1st president.
4. Justification for U.S involvement was Domino Theory which stated, “IF South Vietnam falls to Communists, then Laos, Cambodia  Thailand, Burma, India would also fall like Dominos. The Pacific Island and even Australia could be at a risk.

Events in Vietnam-U.S War: 

Diem declared, S.V was under threat from communists residing in North. 1957: Diem counterattacks with US military help. Passed series of acts known as 10/59 which made it legal for holding communists behind bars without bringing formal charges. It was met with hostility in the native land as Monks, students and intellectuals protested unfair laws and oppression
National Liberated Front was created in 1960 in opposition of government. Anyone could join as long as they wanted a United Vietnam and were against Diem’s rule. Americans labeled the movement “Viet Cong” which meant Vietnamese Communists.
December 1961: Kennedy sends team to Vietnam to asses further American aid requirements.
Strategic Helmet Program (US and South Vietnam joint operation): Placed the villagers in safe helmets (places) isolating the communists from the villagers. It proved counter effective and further consolidated NLF as more people joined the movement.
Summer 1963: Evident that the South Vietnam government would fall. Diem’s brother raided Buddhists Pagodas (place where they lived) and accused them of harboring communists and creating instability. Monks protested by self immolation (setting themselves on fire). IT made world headlines. Coup in South Vietnam with US military help; Diem and his brother was arrested and later killed. Kennedy was also assassinated after 3 weeks of Diem’s killing.

Johnson becomes U.S president. 1964: 2 US ships shot down in Gulf of Tokin on 2nd and 4th August. Gulf of Tokin resolution was signed in US which gave president broad war powers. AIR ATTACKS on North Vietnam.
1965: 2 US installations destroyed in North Vietnam. Operation ROLLING THUNDER begins, Phosphorus and Napalm bombings results in thousand of civilians getting severe burns.
Operation RANCH HAND: Chemical bombings containing Dioxin destroyed millions of acres of jungles but also contaminated the crop which caused chromosome damage to humans. Children were born with deformities.

North Vietnamese Tactics to fight back:

1. Maoist Guerrilla tactics which meant the NFL people would be hard to distinguish from the villagers.Lands were distributed to the peasants. By 1973, NFL had control over half of South Vietnam.
2. Use of AK47 outperformed American M16 guns. Rocket launchers destroyed vehicles. Recycled US bombs and used them against them.
3. Built large tunnel complexes to remain safe from bombings. US countered with Search and Destroy tactics. Burnt down villages.
4. War Strategy was to entangle US in a war they could not win militarily.

What was happening around in America:

Protests against Vietnam War

Johnson lost support. Antiwar protests and sentiments. Protest by Democratic party’s leader in 1968. Hundreds of thousands of people joined in.
Tet Offensive attacks on southern cities by NFL to bring Americans to the bargaining table. MY Lai Massacre in 1968. Photos caused huge uproar in the world.
Nixon wins elections in 68 “Secret plan to end war”. The secret plan was “Vietnamization”. Increase in air war over NV and use of SV soldiers for ground attacks.
Protests increased. Kent shootings and Jackson state shootings result in death of students

End of War 

1972: Christmias bombings. Seiries of deadly bombings. International community condemns.
1973: Paris Peace agreement is signed. US convinced South Vietnam, they would not leave their support if they signed it. January 23: war ends between US and North Vietnam but not between NV and SV.
April 30, 1975: Communists take over South Vietnam.

Why US lost Vietnam War? 

The main reason for US loss in Vietnam War are as followed:
1. Underestimated NV and NLF.
2. 2. Could not stop the movement of the troops despite heavy bombings.
3. NV fought people’s war
4. American public did not support the war.
5. Deep questions about US troops’ efficiency
6. Never understood Vietnamese culture.
7. Could not lose any more soldiers in a jungle war they were never prepared for..
8. Strengths and resourcefulness of NLF. Tunnels etc

After the world war II, the tensions between the communist world and the capitalist world exacerbated. U.S and Soviet Union emerged as the super powers in the world and the cold war at many intervals ws close to turning into a nuclear war, specially in 1962 during the Cuban missile crisis. There was a need to for healthy relationships among the communists countries and capitalist countries (most importantly US and USSR) to promote peace and safety, so that a third world war was prevented. Wars cause mass destruction, cost a fortune, and millions of people brutally lose their lives. It’s worthwhile to notice that disputes should be resolved through dialogue rather than military actions.
Detente is the policy that aimed at reducing the cold war tensions in the world. It is defined as the dealing with other nations in a practical and realistic manner. It was carried out between 1969-80. The policy required showing of flexibility at both ends so that it could be effectively implemented.
Richard Nixon realized the importance of reduced tensions, and he was instrumental in initiating the policy. He was the first president to visit China after World war II. He also visited Soviet Union in 1972. His visit to the Soviet Union was of paramount importance due to the fact, he was there to sign a treaty that would limit the number of ballistic missiles each country could hold. The treaty was called Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty or SALT I. He, and his Russian counterpart Brezhnev signed the treaty that was a historical achievement.
In the Western world, Willy Brandt (Chancellor of West Germany) quickly realized that healthy relationships would be beneficial for West Germany and his policy showed great flexibility and commitment to reducing the Cold War tensions. He showed desire to improve the relationships with Soviet Union for the promotion of peace. He was also willing to recognize East Germany and Poland’s West border. Having profitable and good relationships with the neighbours is the key to the economic and socio-political growth of a country.
After Nixon’s tenure ended, Jimmy Carter assumed the duties of presidency in the United States and he continued with the policy of Detente as a part of his foreign policy. His attempts were directed to negotiate further reduction in nuclear missiles. Although Carter’s efforts were honest, his attempts to put further limits on nuclear ammunition by signing SALT II in 1979 were hampered because the Congress refused to pass the SALT-II treaty.

End of Detente Policy:

The basic reason cited for the rejection of SALT II by the Congress is the invasion of Afghanistan by Soviet Union in 1979. The Communist government of Afghanistan was falling on its feet and Soviet intervened to prevent its downfall.However, the efforts ended in failure and Soviets had to retreat in 1988. It was also seen as the 1st sign of Soviet weekness and kick started the downfall of the Soviet empire. After the Invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, U.S boycotted the 1980 Olympic games which were to be held in Moscow to register their protest. The invasion effectively ended the Detnte policy there and then in 1980.

The Iranian Revolution:

In addition to that, the regime of U.S supported Shah of Iran was overthown in 1979. Iranian Revolution lead by Ayat Ullah Khomeni swept accross and Religious dictatorship came into power. 60 American hostages were held for 444 days and as a consequence of that, President Carter lost popularity in United States. Computer Generated Content (CGC) or Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) is the application of the field of computer graphics; specifically 3D computer graphics to create special effects in areas such as film, video games and simulators. These visual scenes may be dynamic or static.

The technology was introduced in the early 1960’s. Computer Generated Content began as Fragmentation Animation. Tthe film known as Hummingbird is among one of the first to be made using CGI. Hummingbird gained fame when it was viewed at the fourth International Experimental Film Competition in Brussels, Belgium. This “Fragmentation Animation” which is the deformation and reformations of an object in a computer generated space - was an important step for CGI in films because with it came the birth of an entirely new technology for use in the film industry (Fragmentation Animations, 2007).
The visual scenes may be dynamic or static, and may be 2D, though the term "CGI" is most commonly used to refer to 3D computer graphics used for creating scenes or special effects in films and television.

Early films that used Computer Generated Content

One of the earliest movies that used Computer generated content was Star Wars. It was released in 1977 and took the world by storm. The technology was used to trench run briefing sequence. The other films in the early era that were renowned for CGC include Alien (1979), Dire Straits (1985), Lybrinth (1986), and Start Trek IV (1986)
In the modern era some CGC films that have caught the eye include Titanic, Toty Story, The Matrix triology, Spider Man, and Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Directors who feel use of CGC is not necessary
Although CGC has become an important component of the film industry but some directors have been somewhat very restricted towards the use of it. For instance Martin Scorcesse has not been the greatest admirer of CGC in films and openly shared his opinion on it for the best part of 20 years. Although, it seems like his views have changed as Hugo, one of his latest fims Hugo heavily used computer generated content. Clint Eastwood also shared negative views on using computer generated imagery and techniques in films since it took the authenticity and human element out of the film. Christopher Nolan is another director who is not a great admirer of using CGI or CGC. In one of the interview, he said "The thing with computer-generated imagery is that it’s an incredibly powerful tool for making better visual effects. But I believe in an absolute difference between animation and photography. However sophisticated your computer-generated imagery is, if it’s been created from no physical elements and you haven’t shot anything, it’s going to feel like animation. There are usually two different goals in a visual effects movie. One is to fool the audience into seeing something seamless, and that’s how I try to use it. The other is to impress the audience with the amount of money spent on the spectacle of the visual effect, and that, I have no interest in."

Home based businesses have trouble practicing servant leadership, so an alternative for them would be to volunteer to work in a situation that lies outside one's jurisdiction as a professional, but in a non-profit manner.                             Marijuana - the inner peace for youth

Nothing intrigued and fascinated me more than the music and drug culture of 1960’s. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles were nothing less than gods to masses. Spending my teenage listening to these musicians brought the urge to try the drugs as well. Was it LSD and the hallucinogens behind the genius of their music or were they really that gifted was the question that baffled me.

At last I succumbed to this desire of trying Marijuana. A night out with friends was chosen as the ideal time to do it. My friend who had a history of drug abuse boasted that he had scored Afghani marijuana for me and promised it will be an amazing experience. We smoked up and it actually was quite a potent drug, within minutes I felt light headed and really started enjoying myself. Well, I guess at that moment, the tingling voice in my head said " Marijuana is the inner peace for youth ".  Anyways, besides that I found out that getting weed smell out of room was another huge problem that I had to deal with!

But then it started growing on, I could feel that my reflexes were slowing down and my heart beating slower than ever. Things got worse when I got intothe “still phase”, I could hear my friends making jokes and picking on me but Icouldn’t answer them or even move a muscle. Thirst stabbed its pangs in my throat; it felt so parched that even breathing was made difficult. I wanted to scream out to my friends to give me water or jolt me out of this paralyses but thewords just won’t come out. This is when panic overtook me; my mind was numbed by a torrent of thoughts, guilt, fear and anxiety. This grew until I erupted into a fit of nausea and spewed out on the floor. The thing that shook me the most was the attitude of my friends, they hardly made a move to comfort me orhelp me up, and they kept on enjoying their buzz.

The experience left me pondering that is the “high” of drugs worth it when you eventually end up on the floor.

The article initially provides a brief overview about current political situation of Pakistan. Pakistan is a developing country and it is politically unstable but we live in the world where everything is possible. Democratic governments have always failed to complete their tenure which eventually results in a long lasting dictatorship reign. The political system has been stagnant since 70′s and no drastic change has taken place. Pakistani Politics

Pakistani politics has started to take an adverse route as the layman pursues to struggle in the rut. The current situation in Karachi and Baluchistan is worse than ever. The blame of these riots clearly is on politicians who are just manipulating different groups to get benefits for themselves. If the current political situation in Pakistan does not change, the country would keep on suffering at the hands of monarchs and waderas! The role of youth in politics seems to be missing in this scenario and needs to be looked upon if the country is to strive for betterment. One possible solution for the underlying problem is to improve the problems of education system that erodes as every day falls behind.

Education System in Pakistan

In Human development Report Pakistan is placed at 136th position for having just 49.9% educated population. In addition to that, Pakistan is ranked at 113th out of 120 registered UN members according to the research conducted by UNESCO et. all. Some of the very basic flaws of the education system in Pakistan contribute to the economic, ethnic and sociopolitical crisis within the country.

Flaws of Education System in Pakistan

Firstly, the education system of Pakistan is based on unequal lines. Medium of education is different in both, public and private sector. This create a sort of disparity among people, dividing them into two segments. Such a distraught infrastructure is a basic cause of high illiteracy rate in Pakistan and high drop out rates in rural areas and public school.

Secondly, regional disparity is also a major cause. The schools in Balochistan (the largest province of Pakistan by Area) are not that much groomed as that of Punjab (the largest province Of Pakistan by Population). In FATA, the literacy rate is deplorable constituting 29.5% in males and 3% in females.

The third major cause of flawed education system in Pakistan is gender discrimination. The current primary school ratio of boys and girls is 10:4, which is a cause of huge concern. For the last few years there has been an increase in the growth of private schools. It is believed that Pakistan is among the most prominent states affected by gender discrimination. That not only harms the quality of education in Pakistan but create a gap among haves and have nots. 

Fourthly, the lack of technical education is a biggest flaw in the education policy that has never been focused before. Therefore, less technical people means low standard of education. 

Fifthly, the allocation of funds for education are very low. It is only 1.5 to 2.0 percent of the total GDP. It should be around 7% of the total GDP. At that budget allocation, the illiteracy rate in Pakistan would not decrease but rather increase. The federal and provincial governments need to cut down their expenditures in other areas and spend a bigger proportion of income on education.

Moreover, the quality of education in most of the public schools and colleges is well below par; the teachers in government schools are not well trained. People who do not get job in any other sector, they try their luck in educational system. They are not professionally trained teachers so they are unable to train a nation.Quality of teaching needs special attention in rural areas where the teachers lack in all departments. 

In America, Europe and most of the developed countries, the emphasis of the states is on developing virtual education systems i.e. provision of education through online networks. The idea of online education is gathering momentum and many online institutions have been set up which offer online courses and online degrees. The Higher Education Commission and Education ministry need to focus on developing a strong online education network so that students through out the country can benefit. Universities such as Harvard, Berkley and MIT are offering online courses and degrees. It reflects the importance of online education in today's modern high tech world.

Finally, Poverty is also another factor that restrict the parents to send their children to public or private schools. So, they prefer to send their children to Madrassas where education is totally free. The government has to make changes to financial infrastructure to improve the situation. Bank loans for education purposes should not be interest based as it discourages the people of Pakistan to acquire loans. Education loans are offered at low rates through out the world and it enable people to acquire quality education.

Social awareness regarding all these issues need to be spread and we, the people of Pakistan have to work hand in hand with the government authorities to improve the current system. Our children should not be deprived of their basic right to acquire knowledge.

All these issues contribute to high illiteracy rate, which in turn result in economic crisis in shape of high unemployment rate and below-par quality of labor. Moreover, the country suffers on social, political and technological front! There are hundred other problems which need attention but the core-issues need to be addressed as soon as possible. In today's world, the benchmark for excellence is education. Moreover, if a country has a distraught academic infrastructure, the chances to survive in current competitive world are petite. The illiteracy rate in Pakistan is alarmingly high which calls for critical attention. The federal and provincial governments need to work  together towards elimination of flaws of education system in Pakistan.

More than 30 million pounds worth of real state has been bought in Altaf Hussain and his brother's name.  In addition to that 700,000 pounds in cash have also been confiscated from Altaf Hussain's residence. It should be kept in mind that some days ago, one of Altaf's closest allies, his cousin Iftikhar Hussain was also arrested from the Heathrow Air Port and
1 million pounds, diamonds and jewelry were confiscated from Altaf Hussain by the Police

Money Laundering Accusations:

Moreover, the London Metro Police and the Scotland Yard have found through investigation that a very prominent government Pakistani transfers the amount into MQM chief's account. The London Metro Police is collecting evidence of money laundering against him. Days ago, Scotland Yard and London Metropolitan police raided Altaf Hussain's personal residence and evidence were collected there and then. It happened when  the British Prime Minister made his visit to Pakistan in which he declared that the enemies of Pakistan were the enemies of United Kingdom. The reports say that the Police authorities have now prepared quite a strong case of money laundering against him in London.

MQM Secretariat Shut Down:

The MQM Secretariat in London has been closed down in London. Interestingly, No one is there to even attend the calls. Even the mobile phones of the MQM leaderships are off, and there is no contact with them. It would be interesting to see what is made of Altaf Hussain London case.

British Prime Minister visits Pakistan

British Prime Minister David Cameron said that the British government supports Pakistan's stance on drone attacks and democratic talks between Pakistan and United States of America should take place on the drone issue. He also said that the British government was ready to facilitate talks between America and Pakistan on the issue. 

One important thing to notice is that Altaf Hussain resigned from the party leadership on the occasion when the British Prime Minister was in Pakistan and later took his resignation back. Altaf Hussain's cousin has been detained by the Scotland Yard in London and the British police made several raids on Altaf Hussain's residency.

No More Drone Attacks

Moreover, the British Prime Minister took the opportunity to congratulate Nawaz Sharif on sumptuous victory in the General Elections, 2013. He announced that the enemies of Pakistan are the enemies of Britain, and believes that America and Pakistan should hold talks on drone strikes. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the PML-N government has already said that they are against Drone attacks and would succeed in stopping them.

The British Prime Minister visited Pakistan Monument and met youngsters from FATA. He said that associating terrorism with Muslims is wrong, and Muslims around the world are in fact the most affected ones from terrorism.

David Cameron has also assured Pakistan of helping the country beat the energy and economic crisis. Nawaz Sharif approved the new energy policy according to which the power generation capacity would be increased to 26,800 Mega Watts.

New Energy Policy: Reduction in Load Shedding

The Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has approved the new energy policy for Pakistan, according to which the load shedding would be reduced to 8 hours a day in the coming week. After paying off 326 billion rupees of circular debt, the government and analysts believe that 1700 Mega Watts of electricity would be immediately added to the current production capacity.
The Prime Minister has also approved the reduction in the price of electricity which would be brought down to Rs. 10 by the end of 3 years. Proposals to completely eradicate the load shedding in the upcoming 3 years have been made a part of the new energy policy. The government would also try to get control over the line losses which currently stand at 26%. The aim is to reduce the line losses to 16% in the initial phase.

The government aims to make the energy mix of the country more hydro powered centered and Nawaz Sharif has already inaugurated 2 hydro power plants. The government would also focus on alternative energy generation sources such as wind and solar energy. The new energy policy is a sign of eradication of energy crisis from Pakistan.

New Energy Policy

Amid the energy crisis in Pakistan, the new government has prepared the new energy policy. According to the sources, the energy policy would be announced on 27th June by the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

Production to be increased 26,800 MW

According to the sources, the energy production would be increased to 26,800 mega watts in 3 years. The current production in the country is 12,200 mega watts. The government would also try to decrease the tariff rates by 30% and bring down the per unit cost of electricity to 10 rupees. At the moment, the current rate is 14 rupees 67 paisas.
Another main point of the energy policy would be stopping electricity theft. In other news, Scotland Yard arrests Altaf Hussain's cousin in Dr. Imran Farooq Murder case, and IG Gilgit Baltistan has been suspended by Interior Minister after Nanga Parbat incident.
